Consultant profile

Mr Vinod Menon qualified from the University of Kerala (India) in 1989 and completed his higher surgical training on the All Wales HST rotation, leading to CCST in July 2002. He was appointed as Consultant General, Upper Gastro-Intestinal & Laparoscopic Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire in January 2003.

Over the course of 15 years, until 2019, he served as the clinical lead for oesophagogastric cancer surgery, he has been the clinical lead for bariatric surgery since 2008, and he has fronted advancements in bariatric surgery as the clinical lead in this specialised field.

Having previously held the positions of Honorary Secretary and Treasurer, Mr Menon is the Immediate Past President of the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS). Additionally, he held a position on the Association of Upper GI Surgery of Great Britain & Ireland (AUGIS) council.

Mr Menon is Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at University of Warwick.

Beyond clinical practice, Mr Menon is committed to shaping the future of surgical education. As Director of the West Midlands Surgical Training Centre (WMSTC), he ensures that aspiring surgeons receive training opportunities. Furthermore, his editorial roles in prestigious textbooks, including serving as Section Editor (Bariatrics) of the Oxford Textbook of General Surgery and the Springer Textbook of Obesity, Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery, underscore his dedication to advancing surgical knowledge.

Under Mr Menon's leadership, his team has transformed into a pivotal cancer treatment centre renowned for its exceptional outcomes and comprehensive multidisciplinary services. His unwavering commitment to excellence continues to drive innovation in surgical care, benefiting patients and healthcare professionals alike.
