Mr Peter Cooke is a leading urological surgeon and cancer specialist at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and Nuffield Health Wolverhampton with over 20 years of experience and is highly specialised in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He is the Clinical Lead in Urology for the Black Country and West Birmingham Integrated Care System.

He is the leading robotic surgeon in the Midlands region and has personally performed approximately 2000 complex urological cases. His annual robotic radical prostatectomy case load is usually over 100 cases a year. He has performed over 1000 robotic prostatectomies, in addition to nearly 500 laparoscopic prostate and kidney cases.

He was the first surgeon in any specialty to offer da Vinci robot-assisted surgery in the Midlands region, and he led the introduction of robotic surgery at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust in 2010/11.

He is ranked among the top 20 prostate cancer surgeons in the UK, in the Daily Mail Good Doctor guide. NHS data showed complication rates in the best 5% nationally, and in 2022 his team had the shortest length of hospital stay for both prostatectomy and cystectomy (bladder removal) in the country.

His medical leadership roles have included Urology Department Clinical Director, chair of the Trust Senior Medical Staff Committee, chair of the West Midlands Cancer Alliance Urology Expert Advisory Group, chair of the Specialist Multidisciplinary Team, and member of the Trust Cancer Board.

Mr Cooke is highly respected in his field and has numerous publications in respected international journals, including The Lancet. He has presented his work at national and international meetings in Europe and the USA. He is a member of several professional organisations, including the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, the British Association of Urological Surgeons, the European Association of Urology, and the American Urological Association.
